TechFlow News, February 7: According to The New York Times, on-chain prediction platforms are an emerging field, and the NBA currently lacks clear regulatory guidelines—placing them in a gray area. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver now faces a major dilemma: Is it a violation of league rules for star players to turn their own trades into financial products? Notably, Giannis Antetokounmpo (“The Greek Freak”) deliberately announced his investment as a shareholder in sports prediction platform Kalshi Sports only after the NBA’s trade deadline had passed—ensuring all related betting markets had already settled and thus avoiding direct compliance scrutiny during the active trading period. Meanwhile, wagers on whether “The Greek Freak” would be traded before the deadline totaled $23.31 million on Kalshi, while the Milwaukee Bucks announced just hours before the deadline that they would not trade Antetokounmpo this season.
