TechFlow reports, on January 8, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on social media stating that increasing bandwidth is safer than reducing latency. Vitalik noted that blockchains can scale thousands of times through peer-to-peer data availability sampling (PeerDAS) and zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), but latency remains constrained by factors such as the speed of light and node distribution. He suggested Ethereum might achieve moderate latency reduction (down to 2–4 seconds), but emphasized, "Ethereum is the world's heartbeat, not the world's game server." Applications requiring higher speeds should utilize off-chain components, which is one reason why layer-2 networks (L2s) will continue to play a vital role even on a highly scalable Ethereum.
