TechFlow, December 30 — SlowMist's "2025 Blockchain Security and Anti-Money Laundering Annual Report" reveals 200 security incidents occurred throughout the year, resulting in approximately $2.935 billion in losses, a 46% increase year-on-year. The Ethereum ecosystem suffered the highest losses at $254 million. DeFi projects were the most frequently targeted sector with 126 incidents, accounting for 63% of total events and $649 million in losses. Although exchanges experienced only 12 incidents, they incurred $1.809 billion in losses, including a single $1.46 billion loss from Bybit. In terms of attack causes, smart contract vulnerabilities were the primary trigger with 61 incidents, followed by compromised X accounts with 48 incidents.
The report also highlights three key characteristics of blockchain security in 2025: increasingly professional attack methods, more concealed criminal pathways, and stronger regulatory enforcement. North Korean hacker activities remained frequent, stealing $1.645 billion in the first nine months alone, setting a new historical record.
