TechFlow news, December 21 — According to CoinDesk, Sidney (Sid) Powell, co-founder and CEO of Maple Finance, said in an interview that traditional DeFi has "died," and the truly decisive development in the future will be on-chain capital markets. He believes that as institutions gradually move trading, clearing, and settlement on-chain, the traditional model reliant on Wall Street intermediaries and infrastructure will be continuously squeezed — "onchain markets will swallow Wall Street."
Powell pointed out that the early-stage DeFi, which was primarily speculative and centered around simple lending, will be replaced by more institutionalized, institution-focused on-chain financial infrastructure. In the future, capital market activities will occur directly on public or permissioned blockchains, rather than being routed through traditional brokers and investment banks before settlement.
