TechFlow, Nov. 13 — According to CoinDesk, federal agencies including the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the formation of the Scam Center Strike Force, aimed at combating Southeast Asian "pig-butchering" fraud operations.
Led by federal prosecutors in the District of Columbia, the strike force targets transnational criminal organizations operating in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and the Philippines. These groups have stolen tens of billions of dollars from Americans, largely through cryptocurrency transactions.
At the same time, the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed sanctions on the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army in Myanmar and related armed groups, companies, and individuals. Sanctioned entities include Trans Asia International Holding Group Thailand Company Ltd., Troth Star Co. Ltd., and Thai national Chamu Sawang.
