TechFlow news, November 1 — According to DL News, Romania's National Gambling Office (ONJN) blacklisted the prediction market platform Polymarket on Thursday for operating without a license.
ONJN classified betting activities on Polymarket as peer-to-peer betting rather than trading. In Romania, gambling operations are a state monopoly, and operators must apply for and obtain a license from the National Gambling Office before commencing operations.
"The decision to blacklist Polymarket has nothing to do with technology, but everything to do with the law," said ONJN President Vlad-Cristian Soare. "Whether you're betting in lei or cryptocurrency, if you're wagering on future outcomes under peer-to-peer betting conditions, we're talking about gambling that requires a license."
