A Brief Analysis of Magpie's Governance Aggregation Ecosystem
This article will provide a brief introduction to the project and review Magpie's current positioning within the DeFi ecosystem.
Author: Sleeping Heavily in the Rain
I've discussed Magpie several times before. I really like this project—the team demonstrates foresight into trending DeFi narratives and quickly launches products. The launch of SubDAO @Listapiexyz_io for Lista DAO further confirms my view.

The following content aims to briefly introduce this project and review Magpie’s current positioning within the DeFi ecosystem.
Let’s dive in ⬇️
1/ Magpie's Positioning in the DeFi World
In DeFi, to balance AMM liquidity depth, rewards for LP providers, and alleviate selling pressure on protocol tokens, ve tokenomics emerged. This ve model has sparked governance wars at the protocol level—various participants use different strategies and clever designs to accumulate a protocol’s veToken, ultimately aiming to control the distribution flow of protocol tokens to serve their own interests.
If we see the factions in these governance wars as armies, then Magpie’s SubDAOs are mercenary forces composed of retail users. SubDAOs typically use native token incentives (various Rush campaigns) to attract retail holders to delegate their tokens. As a result, SubDAOs gain voting power and amplify their influence within the respective protocols. In return, retail users receive rewards in the SubDAO’s native tokens and can also participate in earning emissions from the underlying protocol.
2/ A Case Study
The most memorable SubDAO for me is @Penpiexyz_io.
During the Pendle governance war, Penpie was the top-performing governance aggregator in terms of both price performance and the mPENDLE/PENDLE exchange rate. Unfortunately, I made a wrong decision back then and deposited all my $PENDLE into another aggregator.
As of now, Penpie (mPENDLE) controls 12.49 million vePENDLE, accounting for 36.19% of the total supply.

Here are some of Penpie’s developments in May ⬇️
-
Distributed $121,000 in voting incentives;
-
Passed and executed PIP #10, aiming to strengthen mPENDLE’s peg through strategic buybacks and burns;
-
Completed buybacks of over 66,000 mPENDLE tokens;
-
Integrated DeltaPrime on Arbitrum;
-
Will receive 285,000 ARB tokens as a reward in Arbitrum’s STIP Addendum incentive program
3/ Magpie’s Development History
At the end of 2022, Magpie began with @WombatExchange, a stablecoin swap protocol on BNB Chain, participating alongside @WombexFinance and @QuollFinance in the veWOM governance war.
In 2023, as new DeFi narratives emerged and multi-chain ecosystems expanded, the Magpie team successively launched governance-focused projects on top of protocols such as @Pendle_fi, @PancakeSwap, @eigenlayer, @RDNTCapital, and @CamelotDEX, naming this innovative model "subDAO." To date, the Magpie team has accumulated over $1.13 billion in TVL across multiple protocols.
4/ Magpie’s Governance Universe — Mega DAO
Currently, Magpie’s subDAO projects include:
-
@Pendle_fi - @Penpiexyz_io
-
@PancakeSwap - @Cakepiexyz_io
-
@eigenlayer - @Eigenpiexyz_io
-
@RDNTCapital - @Radpiexyz_io
-
@CamelotDEX - @Campiexyz_io
-
@lista_dao - @Listapiexyz_io
Among them, @Eigenpiexyz_io has surpassed $1 billion in TVL, while @Cakepiexyz_io controls over 42% of veCAKE in PancakeSwap.
Of course, Magpie’s ambitions extend beyond ve tokenomics. In addition to veDAOs, Radpie (mentioned above) is built on dLP, aiming to solve the issue of locked dLP liquidity. Eigenpie, meanwhile, focuses on mitigating systemic risks associated with single LRTs (notably, Eigenpie’s TGE IDO will be conducted at a $3 million FDV, and users who have deposited funds into the protocol will be eligible to participate).
