Fate first, luck second, feng shui third—how much wealth one can attain in life is actually predetermined from birth. The world is a massive I Ching simulator. The Eastern metaphysics system has evolved over thousands of years and is still widely used by many masters today, proving its validity. Wall Street spent one to two centuries summarizing the "Stock Market Barometer," while the I Ching, having traversed nearly 3,000 years of history, has become a classic—a barometer for life itself.
How can we draw an illustrative analogy between the I Ching and Web3? The Four Pillars (BaZi) resemble a project’s fundamentals; a person's facial features, palm lines, and aura are akin to secondary market candlestick patterns; one’s living environment, ancestral home feng shui, and magnetic fields correspond to the macro environment. Strong fundamentals, combined with bullish technical patterns and favorable macro conditions, create the optimal risk-reward ratio. In my view, the I Ching represents both a classic and innovative investment philosophy and methodology.
This article analyzes solely from a metaphysical perspective, without interpretation from other angles.
1. The Concept of Wealth Vault (Cai Ku)
Let’s begin with the concept of “grave-vaults” (mu ku). As the name suggests, a wealth vault continuously generates income flowing out of storage. To rise from nothing to A8, A9, or even higher wealth levels, most people must have an inherent vault in their BaZi chart that also serves as a useful god (yong shen). Good fortune provides opportunities to get rich, but only a wealth vault enables one to transcend cycles.
Many in the crypto industry see massive paper profits during bull markets, yet lose all liquidity in bear markets—this results from lacking a vault. Achieving significant financial freedom, according to metaphysics, requires repeatedly transcending cycles and continuous leaps forward. Those who survive one or two full bull-bear cycles, especially when the vault functions as a useful god, typically accumulate solid capital reserves.
In BaZi, the four grave-vaults are Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei—all Earth branches. Chen is the vault for Water and Wood; Xu is the vault for Earth, Fire, and Metal; Chou is the vault for Water and Metal; Wei is the vault for Wood and Fire.
If Water is your wealth star and strong, it enters the vault via Chen or Chou.

2. Wealth Levels Based on BaZi Combinations
The concept of strong vs. weak self primarily depends on the monthly branch (Yue Ling). If the month contains companions (Bi Jie) or印 (Yin Xiao), the self is likely strong. Other combination types must also be considered. The diagram below shows a scoring system for BaZi strength based on various components, helping distinguish between strong and weak selves (excluding special patterns).
Strength is calculated using scores assigned to Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: Bi Jian, Jie Cai, Zheng Yin, and Pian Yin all contribute points. A total score ≥44 indicates a strong self; otherwise, it’s weak. (Hidden stems are not counted.)
The above table is for reference only. Actual situations are significantly more complex. For individuals at A11 level and above, let’s examine two typical Web3 figures: CZ and Sun Brother.
CZ:

When studying BaZi deeply, we find that in advanced interpretations, official-star (guan sha) can be viewed as wealth, indicating a higher tier of prosperity. With strong Metal and Fire elements and a pure, clean structure, this is an exceptional configuration. The stems and branches form multiple San Hui and San He combinations, minimizing internal energy waste and allowing greater focus on platform development and resource integration.
Binance truly rose after 2018—the same year CZ entered a new Jia Chen decade luck period, during the Wu Xu annual cycle. The clash between Chen and Xu opened the Fire and Metal vaults. Given CZ’s natal chart already rich in Metal and Fire, both companion stars and official-stars unlocking vaults symbolize not only exponential business growth but also the ability to retain all wealth—an exceptionally auspicious turning point. Since Earth acts as印 (Yin), opening the vault simultaneously brings emotional distress and mental pressure for CZ.

Sun Brother:
Bing Fire day master, weak self following the “Feeding the Child” pattern (Cong Er Ge)—a false Cong Er structure with an inherent wealth vault. From 2013 onward, entering the Bing Xu decade luck transformed his chart into a true weak-following pattern. In such cases, weakness paradoxically becomes strength, allowing him to be treated as strong. This “exhausted injury officer” configuration is also a top-tier pattern where intellectual output generates wealth.
Unlike CZ’s path to wealth, those with dominant伤官 (Shang Guan) often gain massive fortunes through skills, tactics, or speculation. A key negative trait of the伤官 pattern is argumentativeness and aggression—contradicting others regardless of context. Viewing食伤 (intellectual output) as wealth also signifies extraordinary prosperity.
A hallmark of following-patterns is extreme volatility: tenfold ease during favorable periods, tenfold hardship during adverse ones. Compared to CZ, whose strong self focuses on cultivating his core domain, someone like Sun Brother, under a weak-self assumption, tends to chase trends or become one. Different BaZi structures manifest completely opposite behaviors—personality shapes destiny, and BaZi shapes personality.
During the 2013–2022 Bing Xu decade luck, Xu served as an Earth vault. Combined with the Chou-Wei-Xu tri-combination, it unlocked both wealth and intellectual-output vaults. These ten years were virtually cheat-mode: graduating, founding companies, entering crypto, and acquiring Huobi with massive funds—achievements beyond most people’s lifetime ceilings. Navigating Web3 headwinds isn’t easy. For a following-child pattern,官杀 equals internal friction. Even with wealth rooted,官杀 may symbolize “debt”—business expands, but profits may shrink.
In 2024 (Jia Chen year), the大运 forms Hai-Zi-Chou water trine, while the流年 forms Shen-Zi-Chen water combination—ensuring an internal battle between官杀 and食伤. Recent incidents like lost coins at Huobi began only after Sun Brother changed luck cycles in 2023. Perhaps acquiring Huobi was his peak moment in recent years. Surviving headwinds and preserving/transmitting wealth becomes a mandatory lesson for giants.

Injury Officer (Shang Guan) represents skill,偏财 (Pian Cai) reflects imaginative wealth potential, and正官 (Zheng Guan) denotes self-discipline. A great trader (or investor) needs excellent investment skills (Shi Shang), industry vision (Pian Cai), and disciplined risk management (Zheng Guan). His investment and trading abilities are undoubtedly top-tier. There’s little essential difference between trading and investing—they’re both compensations for one’s character. Beyond that, it comes down to luck.
