TechFlow news, August 4 — Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike's latest threat report reveals that over the past 12 months, more than 320 cases were identified of North Korean individuals posing as remote IT workers to infiltrate Western companies, a 220% increase year-on-year. These individuals used generative AI technology to forge resumes and interview videos, successfully securing remote work positions.
The report states these operations aim to raise funds for North Korea's sanctioned nuclear program and to steal corporate data for ransom. According to U.S. Department of Justice data, between 2021 and 2024 alone, one North Korean group stole the identities of 80 American citizens and successfully penetrated over 100 U.S. companies.
