TechFlow news, June 6 — According to CoinDesk, Tigran Gambaryan, who previously led financial crime compliance at Binance, has announced his departure from the company.
Gambaryan joined Binance in 2021 after serving as an investigator for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), at a time when the cryptocurrency exchange faced increasing scrutiny over its lax anti-money laundering compliance. Under his leadership, Binance built a 100-member global investigation team composed of former prosecutors and federal agents.
In 2024, Gambaryan was detained in Nigeria on charges related to the exchange's operations. Amid bipartisan political pressure in the United States, he was released on humanitarian grounds after eight months in custody. Although the charges against him were ultimately dropped, Nigeria continues to hold Binance accountable.
