TechFlow news, May 10 — According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia is delaying its formal accession to the BRICS bloc to avoid provoking the United States. Two sources familiar with the matter said that although Saudi Arabia was invited to join the group in 2023, attended a BRICS meeting in Brazil last week, and is listed as a member on the organization's website, it has not yet formally confirmed its membership.
Saudi hesitation stems from its delicate position between China, its largest oil export market, and the United States, its security and technology partner. The U.S. plans to offer Saudi Arabia weapons deals worth $100 billion.
In December last year, Trump warned that if BRICS creates a new currency or supports alternatives to the dollar, he would impose 100% tariffs on all BRICS nations.
