TechFlow, April 15 — According to Cointelegraph, Jake Gallen, CEO of digital asset platform Emblem Vault, was hacked after a suspicious Zoom video call, losing over $100,000 worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The attackers impersonated a YouTube blogger with more than 90,000 subscribers and, during the video interview, exploited Zoom's default-enabled remote access feature to install malware named "GOOPDATE" on Gallen's computer. Cybersecurity firm SEAL stated that the hacking group, known as "ELUSIVE COMET," typically operates under the guise of Aureon Capital venture capital firm and has caused millions of dollars in losses.
SEAL security researchers advised cryptocurrency industry professionals to promptly disable Zoom's remote access feature to prevent similar attacks.
