O'Leary stated, "Economic factors will ultimately dominate everything; I don't think the Trump administration is stupid." He views the tariffs as a negotiation tool and expects countries to quickly engage in trade talks with the U.S. Trump's tariff policy has triggered investor panic, causing the S&P 500 to drop nearly 14% year-to-date and the Nasdaq to fall 19%. Some countries, including Japan and Vietnam, have already contacted the U.S. seeking negotiations, while China has said it will "fight to the end."
