TechFlow news — On December 6, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) announced the establishment of a dedicated cryptocurrency task force to crack down on cryptocurrency ATM operators violating anti-money laundering regulations. AUSTRAC CEO Brendan Thomas emphasized that strict measures will be taken against operators failing to comply with regulatory obligations.
Data shows that Australia currently has approximately 1,200 cryptocurrency ATMs, ranking third globally. Among the 400 digital currency exchanges registered with AUSTRAC, only a small number operate cryptocurrency ATMs. Around 31.6% of Australia's population owns or has previously owned cryptocurrency.
