TechFlow reported on December 6 that, according to Blockworks, Austin Federa, Head of Strategy at the Solana Foundation, announced his departure to co-found a project called DoubleZero alongside Mateo Ward and Andrew McConnell. The project plans to build high-performance network infrastructure dedicated to blockchains by integrating unused fiber optic and undersea cable resources.
Federa served at Solana for nearly four years and was a key public figure within the organization. DoubleZero will initially support Solana, employing a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) slashing mechanism and token-based incentives to improve validator efficiency by filtering redundant data. Lucas Bruder, CEO of Jito Labs, described it as "the most interesting experiment in crypto." The project's whitepaper highlights that vast amounts of unused global fiber optic resources are available and can be leveraged to construct next-generation internet infrastructure.
