TechFlow reports, according to an annual survey by Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in El Salvador, 12% of the local population used bitcoin at least once last year to pay for goods and services.
The survey was conducted in December 2023 through household visits with 1,280 respondents.
Most people who made purchases using bitcoin last year used it only one to three times (49.7%), while 20% used it ten times or more. The main spending categories were groceries (22.9%) and supermarkets (20.9%), followed by veterinary clinics (15%).
