TechFlow reports that Venezuela plans to shut down its cryptocurrency project, Petro, on Monday, due to the currency's limited circulation and entanglement in corruption scandals.
Petro was once backed by Venezuela's oil reserves but proved difficult to understand and was widely labeled a scam. President Maduro had previously attempted to promote its use, but has now decided to close Petro cryptocurrency wallets and convert remaining balances into local currency.
