TechFlow news: Roger Ver, founder of Bitcoin.com and known as "Bitcoin Jesus," filed a lawsuit in Seychelles in 2022 against Smart Vega, a subsidiary of Matrixport operating Bit.com, seeking to recover $8 million that had been frozen. Roger Ver stated the funds were withheld because Jihan Wu, co-founder and chairman of Matrixport, blamed him for the collapse of CoinFLEX, while Wu claimed the freeze was intended to offset financial losses caused by CoinFLEX's collapse.
Jihan Wu said, "My position is simple: I am a creditor of CoinFlex, and CoinFlex is your creditor (Roger Ver). You just need to send your USDC back to CoinFlex to repay the debt there, and CoinFlex will then release $5 million in USDC to me."
Roger Ver has filed an application in Seychelles to liquidate Matrixport. In April 2023, a representative of bit.com expressed willingness to place the disputed $8 million into a third-party escrow account pending resolution of the contractual dispute between the two parties.
As previously reported by TechFlow, on June 24, 2022, exchange CoinFLEX announced it was suspending withdrawals. On June 29, CEO Mark Lamb tweeted that liquidity issues at the exchange were due to Roger Ver's unpaid debts, and stated that a default notice had been issued to Roger Ver, claiming 47 million USDC in damages.
