TechFlow reports that Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin said central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) have not evolved in the way he once hoped. He used to be more optimistic about CBDCs, but now believes they have largely become a "front end" for traditional banking systems.
Vitalik thinks CBDCs are unlikely to be private digital assets. Instead, he believes they will enable governments and corporations to monitor the financial transactions of users. He stated, "They will ultimately become much less private, essentially breaking down all existing barriers against both corporations and governments."
