TechFlow news, on June 9, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is collaborating with India-based cryptocurrency fund Crypto Relief and Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal to donate $100 million toward COVID-19 research and healthcare infrastructure development in India. Of this amount, $10 million comes from Buterin's personal funds and 9,000 USDC from Crypto Relief.
The two are working together to help distribute the funds and ensure compliance with local regulations. The first phase of this donation aims to address India's COVID-19 pandemic through "emergency humanitarian relief." According to Buterin, COVID-19 and future pandemics will continue to pose major risks in the 21st century, requiring a global solution that combines cutting-edge scientific innovation with practical implementation.
In addition, Buterin noted that the $100 million will support research into airborne transmission of COVID-19, improve experimental technologies such as ventilation, HEPA filtration, and UVC irradiation, and focus on studying long-term symptoms—Long COVID. Overall, the donation by Buterin and Nailwal will help enhance India's capacity to combat COVID-19.
