Zuckerberg: Superintelligence Should Empower Everyone, Not Be Concentrated in a Few Institutions

TechFlow reports that on July 29, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg published an open article titled "The AI Future Is for Everyone" in The Wall Street Journal, elaborating on his philosophy regarding the development of superintelligence, advocating that future AI should widely empower individuals rather than be centrally controlled by a few institutions.

Zuckerberg stated that the most critical question currently is not whether superintelligence will emerge, but who will be able to access it. Prosperity should be based on "individual empowerment," the core mission of superintelligence should be "innovation," and "checks and balances" should serve as security safeguards, rather than concentrating AI capabilities in the hands of a few institutions.

Addressing concerns from some AI industry figures regarding superintelligence risks, Zuckerberg expressed disagreement with views such as "AI will replace most jobs" or "only highly concentrated power can ensure AI safety." History has proven that excessive concentration of power often suppresses human potential, while openness and freedom can bring more innovation and prosperity. The greatest value of superintelligence should not be automation, but driving invention and creation. If superintelligence is held by a few institutions, it will inevitably exert excessive influence on the economy, science, and politics; conversely, enabling everyone to possess personal superintelligence is expected to open a new stage of comprehensive improvement in individual capabilities and promote more entrepreneurship and innovation.

In terms of security governance, Zuckerberg pointed out that experience in fields such as cybersecurity indicates that open ecosystems help improve system security in the long term; regarding employment issues, Zuckerberg believes that if AI is used more to empower individuals rather than simply replacing labor, the jobs created in the future may outnumber those replaced, the threshold for entrepreneurship will be further lowered, and the economic structure is expected to tilt towards more small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs. Zuckerberg stated that Meta will continue to advance superintelligence research and development around the three principles of individual empowerment, innovation, and checks and balances, and believes these values will help build an AI future that benefits everyone.
