Nvidia Invests $5 Billion in Former OpenAI Chief Scientist Sutskever's AI Startup SSI

TechFlow reports, on July 28, according to Yonhap News Agency citing the "Financial Times", NVIDIA announced a long-term strategic cooperation with AI startup Safe Superintelligence (SSI), with an investment scale of approximately $5 billion (about 7.3 trillion won). SSI was founded by former OpenAI Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever after his departure in 2024, and is committed to breaking through the limitations of existing Large Language Models (LLM) to develop next-generation AI technology.

NVIDIA will provide SSI with access to the Vera Rubin platform, and SSI plans to expand its AI computing power to 10 times the current scale within the next year. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that he looks forward to SSI achieving new technical breakthroughs based on the Vera Rubin platform. Analysis by "The Wall Street Journal" pointed out that this investment is NVIDIA's strategic move to consolidate its core technology ecosystem in the AI chip sector and counterbalance competitors.

SSI previously received $2 billion in financing from top VC firms such as Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital last year, with a valuation reaching $32 billion at that time.
