NVIDIA Invests in OpenAI to Co-Found New AI Lab, Aiming to Expand Computing Power Coverage
According to The Wall Street Journal, NVIDIA has invested in the artificial intelligence laboratory Safe Superintelligence (SSI), founded by OpenAI's former Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever, and established a long-term partnership with it. Under the agreement, SSI will receive a large amount of NVIDIA's flagship GPU resources, with computing power expected to increase by an order of magnitude. The specific investment amount has not been disclosed yet.
TechFlow reports that on July 27, according to The Wall Street Journal, Nvidia has invested in the artificial intelligence laboratory Safe Superintelligence (SSI) founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever and established a long-term partnership with it. Under the agreement, SSI will gain access to a large amount of Nvidia's flagship GPU resources, with computing power expected to increase by an order of magnitude; the specific investment amount has not been disclosed yet.
Previously, SSI mainly relied on Google TPUs for R&D. The market believes this move reflects Nvidia's effort to further expand its chip ecosystem and lock in future computing power demand by investing in top AI laboratories.
SSI was founded in 2024 and focuses on "safe superintelligence" research. It has previously raised approximately $2 billion in cumulative funding and is valued at approximately $30 billion.
