Chinese Ministry of Commerce Responds to US Plans to Investigate and Sanction Chinese AI Companies: Typical AI Hegemonic Practices

TechFlow reports, on July 27, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce responded to the U.S. side's claim that it would investigate Chinese AI companies for "distilling" U.S. frontier models and possibly impose sanctions, stating that this move lacks factual and legal basis and is a typical act of AI hegemonism.

The Chinese side pointed out that the capabilities of some Chinese models are already in a leading position, and nearly 200 U.S. startups urged the government not to cut off access to Chinese open-source models. The Chinese side urged the U.S. side to stop smears and sanction threats, otherwise it will take all necessary measures to safeguard its own rights and interests.
