AMD Will Establish AI Research Center in South Korea to Build Open AI Infrastructure Ecosystem
According to South Korea's "Maeil Business Newspaper", AMD (AMD.O) will build an artificial intelligence research center in South Korea and create an open AI infrastructure ecosystem. The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT stated on the 27th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with AMD in San Francisco on the 23rd regarding cooperation on the AI chip ecosystem. AMD plans to establish an AI Center of Excellence in South Korea to support technical cooperation among Korean enterprises, universities, and research institutions, AI chip software development, computing technology validation, and joint research, and will also promote cooperation with local Korean AI chip enterprises. This memorandum of understanding includes building heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure, connecting AMD's CPUs and GPUs with AI chips (NPUs) where Korean enterprises have advantages in inference. Both parties also plan to create an open AI computing ecosystem, promoting joint participation by Korean enterprises, with coverage also including memory, networking, servers, and software. (Jin10)
