TechFlow news, July 22, according to the UK Financial Times, insiders revealed that Samsung is negotiating to participate in a new round of financing for AI startup Mistral, which could value Mistral at approximately 20 billion euros. This move will help the French company become a major alternative to US tech giants.
One of the insiders stated that Samsung had previously supported the company through its venture capital arm and may invest approximately 1 billion euros in this new round of financing. This negotiation reflects that AI developers are widely seeking to establish partnerships with semiconductor suppliers to address the situation where computing power demand far exceeds supply in the industry. After the Trump administration banned foreign users from accessing Anthropic's latest Mythos and Fable models last month, interest from European and Asian enterprises and governments in alternative solutions to leading US AI models has continued to rise.
Since its inception, Mistral has focused on developing open-source AI models, allowing customers to customize and control them, which means no company or government can shut down these models.
