TechFlow reports, July 21, according to Bitcoin.com, the Kenyan government is investigating a hacking incident involving the official website of President William Ruto. Attackers tampered with the homepage content and demanded a payment of 5 Bitcoins, threatening to leak undisclosed information otherwise.
The Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy stated that relevant departments have launched a cybersecurity emergency response and commenced a forensic investigation. Currently, there is no evidence indicating that sensitive data was unauthorizedly accessed, leaked, or lost.
This incident marks the second high-profile cyberattack targeting state agency websites in Kenya within the past year, once again highlighting the cybersecurity pressures faced by government digital infrastructure.
