TechFlow News, July 16. According to Cointelegraph, Coinbase Platform Head Rob Witoff revealed that 95% to 100% of the company's code is now written with the assistance of large language models, a significant increase from 40% in February this year. AI has been deeply integrated into Coinbase's daily development process, with each engineer using an average of 5 to 10 AI agents simultaneously, collectively completing the coding workload of approximately 1,200 employees.
Witoff stated that key modules such as core encryption algorithms still rely on manual review, but prototype development has achieved full automation. This transition enables Coinbase to operate with a leaner senior team, where 2 to 3 people can complete work previously requiring more than 10 people. The company laid off 700 employees in May this year, with CEO Brian Armstrong stating the need to "return to startup speed with AI at the core."
