TechFlow reports that on July 12, Citrini analyst Jukan disclosed in a post on X that NVIDIA has decided to temporarily abandon the adoption of TSMC's COUPE (Compact Universal Photonic Engine) technical solution, due to TSMC's slow progress in advancing silicon nitride (SiN) technology and the development of 2D grating couplers falling short of expectations.
It is reported that NVIDIA's previous "Plan A" was based on TSMC's COUPE co-packaged optics platform, while the latest "Plan B" has shifted to Tower Semiconductor's silicon photonics platform.
Jukan also previously stated that the release date of NVIDIA's next-generation Rubin architecture products may be delayed again.
