TechFlow reports, July 9, according to Cryptopolitan, approximately 1,200 people in Texas, USA lost a cumulative total of $56.8 million due to crypto ATM scams last year, the highest in the nation. The report noted that local crypto ATMs have long lacked state-level regulation, with scammers often impersonating law enforcement, courts, or utility companies to induce victims to deposit cash at the machines and exchange it for cryptocurrency. As cases increase, prosecutors and local law enforcement agencies are pushing the state legislature to strengthen regulation; some areas have also begun requiring operators to post risk warnings, and are even calling for a complete ban on such devices.
