TechFlow News, June 20: Recently, prices across multiple popular categories in the PC market have risen. Not only are gaming laptops seeing sustained price increases, but certain high-performance ultrabooks and creator laptops are also experiencing varying degrees of price hikes. Although major brand promotions are underway this June, prices for some models have already surged over 20% compared to the beginning of the year.
A PC distributor noted that prices for many best-selling models have generally increased by several hundred to one thousand RMB. Currently, brands’ focus is gradually shifting from “capturing sales volume” to “safeguarding profit margins.” With the continued rise in core component costs, further price increases for complete systems remain possible.
“The primary driver of price hikes this year has been the sharp rise in memory chip prices. The rapid development of AI has absorbed substantial memory production capacity, resulting in tight supply and soaring costs for DRAM and SSDs used in PCs. Meanwhile, rising prices across various electronic components have added further cost pressure. Memory price increases constitute the core factor; enterprises find these costs difficult to absorb internally and can only moderately raise product prices,” said a senior executive at a PC company, speaking to reporters.
