TechFlow News, June 11: According to The New York Times, 19-year-old Canadian Trenton Johnston pleaded guilty in U.S. federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Court documents indicate that over approximately two years, Johnston stole roughly $13 million through cryptocurrency scams and used the illicit funds for nightclub spending, jewelry, luxury vehicles, and private jet travel.
The report states that Johnston impersonated representatives of Google and cryptocurrency companies to gain access to victims’ accounts. He then concealed the illicit proceeds with assistance from friends and accomplices—some of whom were also involved in other fraud schemes.
