TechFlow News, June 10: According to the Beijing Evening News, the Haidian District People’s Court in Beijing recently sentenced Meng Mou to four years’ imprisonment for fraud, imposed a fine, and ordered restitution of the victims’ economic losses. The case revealed that Meng Mou impersonated a woman in her twenties who purportedly worked for a “central government department,” established an online romantic relationship with the victim, and defrauded him of over 200,000 RMB. Subsequently, Meng Mou invested all the illicit proceeds into cryptocurrency trading, using 10x leverage; however, the entire amount was lost due to falling market prices. After discovering obvious inconsistencies in Meng Mou’s claimed identity and photos, the victim reported the case to the police, leading to Meng Mou’s arrest.
