TechFlow reports that on May 23, 2025, the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received over 13,400 complaints involving cryptocurrency ATMs, with associated losses exceeding $388.9 million—representing a 23% increase in complaint volume and a 58% rise in losses compared to 2024. Individuals aged 50 and older accounted for more than half of all complaints and suffered losses exceeding $302 million. Texas, Florida, and California ranked highest in complaint volume, with 1,179, 1,213, and 978 complaints respectively; Texas incurred the highest losses, totaling $56.8022 million. The FBI stated that scammers typically instruct victims to withdraw cash and then complete transfers via cryptocurrency ATMs.
