TechFlow News, May 6: According to a report by Axios, two U.S. officials and other informed sources revealed that the White House believes it is nearing an agreement with Iran on a one-page memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war and establish a framework for subsequent, more detailed nuclear negotiations. The U.S. expects to receive Iran’s responses on several key issues within the next 48 hours. Sources described this as the closest the two sides have come to reaching an agreement since the outbreak of the war. Under certain provisions of the agreement, Iran would commit to suspending uranium enrichment activities, while the U.S. would agree to lift sanctions against Iran and release billions of dollars in Iranian funds frozen abroad; both sides would also lift restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz. This single-page MoU—comprising 14 clauses—is currently under negotiation via direct contact and third-party mediation involving Trump envoy Witekoff, Kushner, and multiple Iranian officials. Per the current draft, the MoU would declare an end to regional hostilities and initiate a 30-day negotiation period aimed at finalizing a comprehensive agreement covering open access to the Strait, constraints on Iran’s nuclear program, and the lifting of U.S. sanctions. These negotiations may take place in Islamabad or Geneva. A U.S. official stated that, during this 30-day period, Iran’s restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait and the U.S. Navy’s blockade would be gradually lifted. Should negotiations collapse, U.S. forces would be authorized to reinstate the blockade or resume military operations.
