TechFlow News, April 13: According to the Financial Times, informed sources revealed that the UK will not participate in the U.S.-led blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Last evening, Trump stated that, following a lack of breakthrough in U.S.-Iran peace talks, the U.S. Navy would blockade this critical waterway—the Strait of Hormuz—and deploy additional minesweepers there. NATO has also expressed willingness to “help clear the strait,” while the UK and other countries are dispatching minesweepers.
A UK government spokesperson said: “We continue to support freedom of navigation and the openness of the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for sustaining the global economy and alleviating domestic cost-of-living pressures. Navigation through the Strait of Hormuz must never be subject to tolls. We are urgently collaborating with France and other partners to build a broad coalition to safeguard freedom of navigation.”
