TechFlow News, March 20: According to a TechCrunch report, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince stated at the SXSW conference that with the rapid advancement of generative AI, AI bot traffic is projected to surpass human traffic by 2027. He noted that AI bots visit approximately 1,000 times more websites than humans when performing tasks—for instance, while a human might browse five websites while shopping, an AI bot could access up to 5,000.
Prior to the generative AI era, bot traffic accounted for only 20% of internet traffic; today, this proportion is rising rapidly. Prince emphasized that addressing this trend requires building new infrastructure—including “sandboxes” for AI agents that can be created and destroyed on demand—and warned that the continued growth in internet traffic will place immense pressure on data centers and servers. He characterized AI as the next major platform shift following the transition from desktop to mobile.
