TechFlow News, March 18: According to a data center expansion strategy unveiled by the German government on March 17 local time, by 2030, Germany’s general-purpose data center computing capacity will at least double compared to 2025 levels, while AI-specific computing capacity will increase to at least four times the 2025 level. On the same day, Carsten Wiedemann, Germany’s Minister for Digitalization and National Modernization, stated that this strategy aims to meet rapidly growing data processing demands driven by AI applications, cloud services, and digital transformation. “Globally, it is clear we still have considerable ground to make up,” said Wiedemann. The strategy document—soon to be submitted to the German cabinet for approval—outlines 28 concrete measures, with the core objective of positioning Germany as Europe’s leading data center hub with full data sovereignty.
