TechFlow News, March 13: According to a Decrypt report, on March 11, Europol and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) jointly launched a law enforcement operation codenamed “Operation Lightning,” successfully dismantling the malicious proxy service “SocksEscort” and freezing $3.5 million worth of cryptocurrency linked to the case.
It is reported that this network infected over 369,000 routers and IoT devices across 163 countries worldwide and provided users with more than 35,000 proxy nodes. Law enforcement authorities seized 34 domains and 23 servers. The payment platform involved in the case is estimated to have collected over $5.7 million (approximately €5 million) in cryptocurrency.
