TechFlow reports that on March 12, Nic Carter, Partner at Castle Island Ventures, posted on X stating that the controversy within the crypto community regarding the identity and background of the author(s) of BIP-360 is immaterial. What the Bitcoin community should truly focus on is the technical quality of the proposal itself and its open review process. Developer anonymity or pseudonymity has long been common in Bitcoin’s history—for instance, “Shaolinfry,” the author of BIP-148—a pivotal proposal for activating Segregated Witness—remains unidentified to this day, yet this has not diminished the proposal’s significance. Known contributors to BIP-360 include Ethan, a developer with strong technical credentials; Isabel, who has long been involved in Bitcoin advocacy efforts; and the anonymous developer Hunter Beast. The proposal aims to serve as an initial step toward achieving quantum resistance for Bitcoin by eliminating potential quantum vulnerabilities in Taproot addresses, thereby paving the way for a future series of BIPs designed to defend against quantum computing threats. Some opposition may stem from groups focused on issues such as “filtering or spam transactions,” but as the potential future failure of Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) gains increasing attention, the community’s priority is shifting toward enhancing Bitcoin’s quantum resistance.
