TechFlow News: On March 7, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced in a recent post that Ethereum plans to replace the Casper FFG finality mechanism on its consensus layer with Minimmit. The new mechanism compresses finality from two rounds into one, improving efficiency—but correspondingly reduces fault tolerance from 33% to 17%. According to Vitalik, this change enhances resistance against censorship attacks and, in cases of network uncertainty, defaults to a “dual-chain competition” state—buying the community more time to respond—resulting in a more balanced overall security trade-off.
