TechFlow News, February 27: According to a report by Decrypt, Jeanine Pirro, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, announced on Thursday that the “Fraud Center Strike Force” has successfully frozen, seized, and forfeited over $580 million in cryptocurrency assets linked to Southeast Asian criminal networks. These networks primarily operate “pig-butchering” scams in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos, using social engineering tactics to lure victims into purchasing cryptocurrency, which is then stolen via fraudulent investment platforms.
According to the report, these scam operations are connected to transnational Chinese criminal organizations and rely on coerced labor. The Strike Force was established in November 2025 and coordinates actions across multiple U.S. government agencies—including the Department of Justice, the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Department of the Treasury—with the aim of dismantling these transnational criminal networks and returning confiscated funds to victims to the greatest extent possible.
