TechFlow News, February 15: According to Bitcoin News, Lightning Labs has officially released an open-source toolkit enabling AI agents to autonomously send and receive Bitcoin payments over the Bitcoin Lightning Network—without requiring human approval, accounts, login credentials, or API keys. The toolkit implements the L402 protocol, built upon the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” standard. Websites can issue Lightning Network invoices to AI agents; upon payment, the agents receive a digital payment receipt serving as an access key to unlock services or data. The toolkit also includes the “lnget” utility, which automatically handles paid-content access requests in the background. Furthermore, it supports AI-operated Lightning nodes, permission management, hosting of paid services, and agent-to-agent transactions, while incorporating built-in spending limits and remote signing protection.
