TechFlow news: On January 23, according to Cointelegraph, approximately 70 billion Korean won (US$47.7 million) worth of seized bitcoin belonging to the Gwangju District Prosecutors’ Office in South Korea was stolen, and authorities have launched an investigation.
The prosecutors discovered the missing bitcoin during a routine inspection of seized assets. According to The Chosun Ilbo, these crypto assets were stolen via a phishing attack after a staff member visited a fraudulent website. The prosecutors declined to disclose the exact amount of losses or the date when the bitcoin was seized, stating only that they are “tracking the status and whereabouts of the seized items.” This incident occurred shortly after South Korea’s Customs Service dismantled a large-scale cryptocurrency money laundering network on Monday.
