TechFlow reported on January 19 that according to PeckShieldAlert monitoring, on January 10, a user fell victim to a hardware wallet social engineering scam, losing BTC and LTC worth over $282 million. An investigation by ZachXBT revealed that the attacker used THORChain to swap 928.7 BTC (approximately $71 million) into 19,631.1 ETH, 3.15 million XRP, and 77,200 LTC.
Subsequently, the attacker began dispersing the funds: laundering 1,468.66 ETH ($4.9 million) through TornadoCash, transferring 735 ETH ($2.4 million) to WhiteBit, 2,402 ETH ($8 million) to KuCoin, 143 ETH ($477,000) to Huobi, and sending another 100 ETH to ChangeNOW. As of now, the involved exchanges have not announced any countermeasures.
