TechFlow reported on January 13 that, according to Fortune, former New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced plans to launch a cryptocurrency called "NYC Token" after leaving office. He stated the project aims to raise funds to combat antisemitism and anti-American sentiment, as well as promote blockchain education for children. Adams introduced the token in Times Square but did not disclose partners, launch timeline, fund utilization methods, or specific mechanisms, only mentioning that ordinary New Yorkers could participate in investing. During his tenure, Adams was a strong supporter of the crypto industry but also faced controversy over ethical and conflict-of-interest issues. Incoming Mayor Zohran Mamdani has clearly stated he will not purchase the token.
