TechFlow news, January 12 — According to The Block, seven chairs of UK parliamentary committees have jointly written to the government urging a full ban on cryptocurrency political donations in the upcoming Elections Bill. Chairs including Liam Byrne of the Business and Trade Committee argue that crypto donations could undermine transparency and traceability in political funding and expose UK politics to foreign interference risks. The move increases pressure on the Labour government, which already acknowledges that crypto donations pose risks to electoral integrity but may not include the ban in the bill in the short term due to implementation complexities. Reform UK became the first British party to accept Bitcoin donations last year, with its leader Nigel Farage positioning the move as part of a broader "crypto revolution."
