TechFlow reports, on January 8, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin compared Ethereum to BitTorrent and Linux in a social media post, emphasizing its unique combination of decentralization and large-scale application. He noted that Linux, as free and open-source software, is relied upon by billions of users and enterprises worldwide—and widely adopted by governments. Vitalik stressed that Ethereum's layer-1 network must serve as the financial home (and eventually also for identity, social, and governance) for individuals and organizations, enabling users to access the full functionality of the network without relying on intermediaries. He believes such an openly resilient ecosystem can deliver value to a massive user base while earning trust and favor from enterprises, because "what we call trustlessness, they call prudent counterparty risk minimization."
