TechFlow news, January 6th, according to Decrypt, Maine regulators announced a $1.9 million settlement with cryptocurrency ATM operator Bitcoin Depot to compensate consumers harmed by third-party scams. This agreement was reached after a two-year investigation and also grants the company legal operating permission in Maine.
According to FBI data, in 2024, scam losses related to crypto ATMs in the United States reached $246 million, a 99% year-on-year increase, with 43% of the victims being elderly individuals aged 60 and above. Scammers typically induce victims to convert cash into cryptocurrency and send it to the fraudsters' accounts.
