TechFlow news, on November 28, according to Forbes, global leading crypto mining firm Bitfury Group has recently completed a $12 million strategic investment in decentralized AI computing network Gonka.ai, purchasing 20 million GNK tokens at $0.6 per token. Founded by serial entrepreneurs the Lieberman brothers, Gonka.ai aims to build a blockchain-based distributed GPU computing marketplace. This marks Bitfury's first public investment since establishing its $1 billion ethical AI fund, signaling traditional mining firms are systematically entering the decentralized AI infrastructure sector.
Public data shows Gonka already aggregates over 5,000 NVIDIA H100-equivalent GPUs across its network and supports nearly 20 mainstream AI devices including 3080, 4090, H100, and H200, forming a distributed computing cluster that could break NVIDIA and cloud service providers' monopoly and significantly reduce AI development costs. Previous reports indicate Gonka raised $18 million in 2023 from investors including Coatue Management (an OpenAI investor), Slow Ventures (a Solana investor), K5, Insight, and multiple partners from Benchmark. Early contributors also include several well-known industry institutions such as 6 Block, Hard Yaka, Gcore, and Hyperfusion.
